Food Waste Awareness & Stewardship Week
Next week, January 12-16, our students are participating in Food Waste Awareness & Stewardship Week. During lunch, they will place any unopened or uneaten food on a designated table to see how much is wasted in just one week.
Through this activity, students will learn about stewardship of creation, solidarity with those in need, and gratitude for God’s gifts, all key principles of our Catholic faith. Families can support the week by encouraging students to take only what they’ll eat and by discussing ways to reduce food waste at home and at Xavier.
Together, we are helping students grow as thoughtful, compassionate stewards of the gifts God has given us.
Adoration for Life
St. Pius X Sanctity of Life Committee is hosting a city-wide Holy Hour Thursday, January 22 from 7-8 pm. This is the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. All are invited!
XCS News & Updates
2026-2027 Enrollment and Re-Enrollment Process Opening Jan 19th
Families with students currently enrolled in preschool through 11th grade will receive an email on January 19th outlining the re-enrollment process for existing students, as well as the application process for any new students. Completion of this brief form for current students will assist Xavier Catholic Schools in making important decisions that help shape the future of our schools. We greatly appreciate your timely attention to this request. Tuition information for the 2026–2027 school year will also be included in the January 19th email.
In the spring, families will be asked to complete PowerSchool forms and sign tuition contracts.
Questions regarding re-enrollment or enrollment of a new student may be directed to Cara Joens, Director of Enrollment, at [email protected] or 319-739-7300, ext. 313.

Reminder for 2026-2027 XCS Families: Action Items for In-Parish Tuition Eligibility Next Year
Families recently received communication via email and in the mail about the Covenant for Parishes & Families. As Xavier Catholic Schools are extensions of our supporting parishes, all families with students who will be enrolled in XCS schools next year (K-12), must attend a Covenant meeting at their home parish and sign the Covenant to be eligible for in-parish tuition in 2026-2027.
What is the Covenant? The Covenant for Parishes & Families is a shared commitment rooted in our Catholic mission and centered on three essential relationships:
The parish’s role in nurturing faith
The family’s call to active participation in parish life, especially through regular Sunday and Holy Day Mass
Xavier Catholic Schools’ identity as a ministry of our supporting parishes
For more information about this new and important effort and to see parish meeting dates/times, head to CRXCS.org/Covenant.
For questions, please email Dr. Phil Drey, XCS Catholicity Director at [email protected] or Mary Harken, XCS Parish Outreach Coordinator, at [email protected].
