Vocal Music

The Xavier High School Choral Music Department includes many different choral opportunities for students. The three curricular ensembles include Bel Canto, Xavier Chorale and Voce. Additional performance opportunities include two show choirs, Xhilaration and Xuberance.

Xavier High School Vocal Music Department Mission Statement:

It is the mission of the Xavier Vocal Music Department to bring experiences to our students that will help them to grow musically, intellectually, personally, and spiritually.

The Xavier High School Vocal Music Program is designed to share a variety of musical experiences with our students. Students will perform all styles of choral literature from Renaissance to the Contemporary periods. Choirs will perform at festivals, contests, concerts, and other school events. Students that participate in Xavier choirs will:

• Study a wide variety of music.  They will be exposed not just to contemporary music, but also classics from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods.
• Learn the fundamentals of choral singing: singing technique, listening and ensemble singing skills, music literacy, rehearsal and performance decorum, etc.
• Have musical experiences that feed not just their brain, but their soul.
• Learn to sing expressively and communicate the emotion of music, that our students might share their musical experiences with our audiences.
• Grow not just as musicians, but as people; our goal is that they will develop leadership, self-confidence, responsibility and self-discipline.
• Gain the skills needed for future participation in a choral ensemble, whether that is here at Xavier, in college, or their local church choir or community chorus.
