ACTION ITEM: Community Service Day Registration

Xavier High School’s annual Community Service Day is November 12. This is a wonderful day of service for our Saints out in the community. All students must be registered by their parents in order to participate.

Parents need to complete their student(s) registration for Community Service Day by Friday, October 10.

Please also consider joining us as a parent driver for the day! This day is not possible without the volunteers who are willing to drive our students. It is a great day of service and fun! *We are in need of extra drivers this year due to buses being unavailable.

The rain makeup date will be November 17th.

For families with siblings, please complete this form for EACH STUDENT.

Health Protocols

To best care for our Xavier students and the community, we follow health protocols set by the Iowa Department of Public Health and Linn County Public Health. These require us to track illness, which helps us monitor trends both in our school and across the county.

If a student becomes ill during the school day, the procedure is:

1. The student must first check in with the school nurse.
2. The nurse will assess the situation and call the parent/guardian, as needed, to determine next steps (returning to class, going home, or following up with a doctor).
3. If a student leaves school without first seeing the nurse and receiving permission, the absence will be recorded as Unexcused (UA).

This process ensures accurate illness tracking, clear communication, and helps us share reliable information with families who ask what illnesses are currently circulating. It also serves as a reminder that students who go home ill may not return for after-school activities, and that our illness policy applies (for example, students with a fever must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning).

To better serve our community and prioritize student safety, the Saints Shop will no longer be open during school hours.

We are committed to creating a convenient shopping experience for everyone. Moving forward, we will offer updated hours outside of the regular school day to better accommodate families and community members.

It's Busing Reimbursement Time!

First semester transportation reimbursement forms are linked below. Click on the district in which you live to find the form you need to submit. Please keep in mind the following:

• To qualify for reimbursement you must live 3+ miles from Xavier (2+ miles for elementary/middle schools).
• Cedar Rapids School District forms need to be turned into the Xavier main office prior to Friday, November 21. They will NOT accept applications from parents directly. 
• If you live in College Community, Linn Mar Community, Marion Independent or any other district, the form must be mailed directly to that district's business office. They must receive it by December 1. 
• If you live in a school district that is not listed you will need to contact that school district’s business or transportation department to obtain the form and address to mail it to.

Fall Blood Drive

Xavier Health Club will be hosting Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center for their Annual Fall Blood Drive on Thursday, October 9 in the Gym Balcony from 8:00AM to Noon. SLU Registration deadline - 9/29/25

The last day to register for dual credit with St. Louis University is Monday, September 28. All parents and students have received information on how to do this. Please contact Student Services with any questions.

Campus Ministry Updates

Kairos Junior Retreat

Kairos is an optional retreat for juniors. There are three dates offered. Consider registering early because they fill up quickly. The retreat is held at Ridgehaven Cono Camp in Walker, IA. It begins at 4pm Thursday and concludes Sunday afternoon. The cost is $200. The three dates are Oct 23-26, Feb 19-22 and April 16-19. Registration is taken through this Kairos Registration Form. Kairos Parent Meeting

One parent for each child must attend the October Kairos 55 Parent Meeting on October 1 at 5:30 pm in the Xavier Chapel. Enter through the activities doors.

National Life Chain

Join for a day of public, peaceful, prayerful pro-life witness on Sunday, October 5, at St. Matthew Parish from 2-3:30 pm.

Volunteer Opportunities

The XCS Foundation is Recruiting Volunteers for our Business Campaign!

Want an easy, high-impact way to help your student’s school? The XCS Foundation’s Business Campaign needs short-term volunteers—just 5 weeks to connect with 3–7 local businesses. No experience needed: you’ll get a simple script, a short list of businesses, and background info so each outreach takes only a few minutes by phone, email, or a quick pop-in. 

Kick off with chairs Jed Eichhorn and Cassandra Kotek on October 20 at Stillwater Coffee for breakfast—pick up your packet and call sheets, enjoy a treat and coffee, then make your touches weekly and wrap up before Thanksgiving. Ready to help? Email Katie Dostal at [email protected] to join.

Update on XCS Fall Fest

The Xavier Catholic Schools Fall Fest will not take place this fall. Instead, we look forward to celebrating with you and your family at a Back to School Bash next summer at our new middle school!
