Dominant on the Court: Xavier Girls Tennis Stays #1
The Xavier Girls Tennis Team continues to roll through the season with confidence and grit. The team currently sits at 10–1 and holds the #1 spot in the Class 1A Coaches Poll. Last week, they made a huge statement, taking down 4th-ranked Dowling Catholic (2A) by a score of 8–1 and sweeping 9th-ranked Linn-Mar (2A) 9–0—an impressive feat by any measure.
Leading the way is Gabi Fleming, who remains undefeated at the #1 singles position as she sets her sights on a third consecutive state singles title. Backing her up is a seasoned and talented varsity lineup featuring seniors Lulu Rozeboom, Gemma Zeckser, and Emma Richmond; juniors Tia Halabi and Gemma Younadam; and sophomore Kelsey Weiss. This group continues to set the standard with their discipline, team-first attitude, and championship mindset.
Saints Volleyball Starts Strong with a Five-Set Thriller
The Xavier Volleyball Team opened their season with heart, hustle, and a match to remember—pushing Western Dubuque to five thrilling sets before falling just short in a 13–15 nail-biter in the final frame.
The offense was powered by Kyanna Harbeck with 14 kills, Macie Lupkes with 11, and both Maddie Ireland and standout freshman Sage Teagle adding 7 apiece. Behind the service line, the Saints were sharp—posting a team serving accuracy of 93%, with Josie Smith, Madden Wilson, and Sage Teagle all hitting 100% on the night.
Defensively, libero Caylin Miller led the charge with 21 digs, followed by Madden Wilson (15), Maddie Ireland (13), and Sage Teagle (12). It was a team effort from start to finish, and the energy is building.
The team is back in action Thursday in a triangular at Columbus Catholic, facing both Columbus and Regina, and will head to Grinnell on Saturday for tournament play. Keep an eye on this group—they’re just getting started.

The Xavier Football team kicks off its 2025 season tonight on the road at North Scott. Sophomores will start at 5:00 PM; Varsity at 7:30 PM. Good luck to Coach Schulte and the Saints!
