We are excited to announce that current XHS science teacher, Sam Meyers (X17), will be assuming the role of its Strength & Conditioning Coordinator! In an intentional effort to significantly enhance the Strength & Conditioning program at Xavier High School, Meyers will cultivate an environment where all XHS students have the ability to improve athletic performance -- as well as inspire healthy habits and a lifelong passion for fitness in athletes and non-athletes alike.
While Xavier's athletic programs have experienced much success since the school opened, this will mark the first time an official school-wide Strength & Conditioning program will be implemented and led by a designated coordinator. Meyers has already been working with many XHS teams/coaches to implement plans specific to those programs to improve weight room attendance, form, and performance. One of Meyers' goals is also to launch a Strength and Speed camp at Xavier (Summer 2025) to help students improve performance.
"I'm really excited to work with all the coaches in the XHS Activities Department to create a unified program that uses Xavier's tradition and hard work ethic to meet the goals of both our coaches and students," states Meyers. "Xavier is a place that needs -- and thrives from having -- multi-sport athletes. I am excited to help create a culture where students not involved in athletics also have the ability to learn and develop aspects of a healthy life that they can take with them beyond Xavier."
Meyers is a graduate of Concordia University-Chicago with a Master of Science in Applied Exercise Science with an emphasis in Strength & Conditioning. He is a 2017 graduate of Xavier High School, where he excelled in the classroom and was a successful, multi-sport athlete -- earning 1st Team All-State honors in football and Academic All-State honors. He has served on various XHS coaching staffs and has served as a teacher in the XHS Science Department since 2020, which he will continue to do alongside his Strength & Conditioning role.
